| ANGELUS MORTIS was founded in January 1998 by singer Wolfgang "Barney" Dreiseitel, formerly a member of "Violation" and "Lord Astaroth". After leaving Violation, Barney conceived the idea of building an own band and hired Stefan T. (guitars), Marco S. (drums) and Anja Müller (Keyboard). |
| While searching a rehearsal room, they provisionally had to make do with a double garage. About a half year elapsed until a suitable guitarist was found in Florian H. (Apoplexy). The, so far, rather experimental songs were replaced by melodic death- and black-metal dominated by formative keyboard parts. |
| Meanwhile ANGELUS MORTIS moved into the rehearsal room of the buddy band "Extinction" in the Rockwerk in Hof. There more sophisticated and technical songs were developed. Due to musical differences, Stefan T. decided to leave the band in summer 1999. A new guitarist was found in Jan H. |
| In 2001 ANGELUS MORTIS finally moved into their first own rehearsal room in an old school building and started to plan studio recordings. Problems occured when after a half year ANGELUS MORTIS had to part with Jan H. for personal reasons and also guitarist Florian H. declared to leave the band. ANGELUS MORTIS was on the brink of break-up. |
| Only when Denis Fuhrmann (temporary guitarist of Gardens of Gehenna) in summer 2001 entered ANGELUS MORTIS tide turned and the rehearsals revived. New songs were composed. Many cool parts originated, influenced especially by Denis F., and rounded off the partially melodic songs. When then in autumn 2001 drummer Marco S. said goodbye, Raelin - who formerly played together with Barney at Lord Astaroth and than at Extinction - joined the band. Due to Markus P. the style once more changed having a lasting effect. Drumming became more diversified and agressive and harmonizes perfectly with the fast song structures. |
Searching another guitarist, Andrew Nicholas was found and joined the band in winter 2002. Finally Nikolaj Rüster (Schattenvald) was engaged in spring 2003 as a third guitarist. In May 2003 ANGELUS MORTIS has parted ways with guitarist Andrew Nicholas. ANGELUS MORTIS regrets this dicision and wishes him good luck for the future.
On June 24th 2003 Dennis left the band for the reason that he doesn't want to play guitar any more.
In the end of June, Oli Pöpperl (formerly a member of Insomnia) joined the band as session guitaristFinally since August 2003 Oli became a regular member of the band. So ANGELUS MORTIS now consists of five members again. |
| For the end of 2003 ANGELUS MORTIS is planning studio recordings for their first album and of course, finally after five years, their first live gigs. |
